Emerald Vs Other Imitate Green Stones

Emerald gemstone is the valuable gemstone because of its rareness in the nature. Emeralds are famous and attractive gemstones because of its appealing shades of green. Emerald market value and demand is more than any other gemstone. Bit in the market, there are other green stones available which look like the emerald stone. In this blog, I will tell you the difference between emerald and other green stones.

Emerald vs Green Onyx: Emerald and “Green Onyx “both are green colored gemstone. But Onyx is a layering of the crystalline mineral chalcedony and quartz settled as micro fine crystals. On onyx, there are some layers of opaque moganite which gives the onyx opaque, banded look. Onyx can’t considered as proper gemstone and its composition may also vary according to its color. Whereas, emerald is formed by the mineral beryl and it is formed as a single crystal. It has a huge number of inadequacies which make its cutting difficult and it is a rarer gemstone and always comes in green color which makes it more precious than Green Onyx.

Emerald vs Peridot: Another green gemstone which looks like the emerald gemstone that is “Peridot”. Emerald is considered as “precious” gemstone while peridot is “semi –precious” gemstone. Peridot is cabochon the variety of olivine whereas emerald is a part of the beryl family. These gemstones can be discriminate by the color as the emerald is darker shades of green and peridot comes in lighter shades of green. Peridot is fragile in the nature and hardness of emerald is 7.5-8 on the Mohs scale. It looks like an emerald, but it’s very cheap in the price than the emerald so people can easily afford it.. No doubt! Peridot is the natural crystal but it can never be liked with the precious gemstone emerald.

Emerald vs Jade: The term “Jade” represents the two stones “Jadeite and Nephrite”. Both these stones are of green color and these both are minerals which are made up of different silicate, but they both vary from each other. “Jadeite and Nephrite” have same hardness which is 6.5-7.0 which is less than emerald stone. You can easily differentiate the emerald and jade. If you place these two stones together, you will notice that jade is “opaque” whilst emerald is transparent. Both the stones can be carved but jade is more softer as compared to emerald

Emerald vs Green Beryl: Emerald and green beryl both are the part of the beryl family, but both of these stones are quite different from each other. The color of both stones fall under the green color, but shades are different like the shades of emerald comes in “yellowish green to greenish blue” while the shades of green beryl is “pale green or very light green”. Emerald stone is green because of the combination of “chromium and vanadium” however green beryl is green due to the presence of “iron” only.  Emerald is rare to be found in nature as compared to green beryl. Emerald is mostly found with the inclusions in it and green beryl comes with very less inclusions. Hardness of both the stones is equal, but due to more inclusions in emerald, chances of getting breakage or expanses is more than the green beryl. But this stone is also cheaper in price rather than the emerald stone.
